Glasgow is part of the European Coalition of Cities Against Racism, and as part of this coalition people in Glasgow are being asked to contribute their experiences to help shape a travelling play that will tour Europe.

If you have experienced discrimination, you can tell your story online at www.discriminations.eu. The organisers (the City of Liège and ECCAR) are looking for examples of all kinds of discrimination, whether related to race, disability, sex, gender identity, age, sexual orientation or religion and belief.

Selected stories will be used to develop the play at the Conservatory of Music and Theatre in Liège.

Please share this information with friends, colleagues and communities so we can ensure Glasgow is well represented alongside our fellow ECCAR cities in this exciting project.

The European Coalition of Cities against Racism

The European Coalition of Cities against racism was created by the City of Nuremberg and UNESCO with the objective of working in partnership to fight racism, discrimination and xenophobia. In October 2014, the Coalition celebrated its 10 years of existence. An opportunity to take stock and address new challenges.

In this context, the City of Liège and ECCAR invite you to take part in the organisation of a call for stories of discrimination.
After a given amount of time, these would then be put into the hands of Liège's Conservatory of Music and Theatre in order to create a travelling play.

We would love to be able to count on your collaboration for this joint adventure.
Here are the different steps and what we would need from you for each one of them:

1) a call for stories of discrimination of all kinds (racism, homophobia, women's issues, ...) on a digital platform created especially for this campaign. A test version is already available on www.discriminations.eu

The stories could be read at any time on this multilingual platform.
We would love to be able to count on your City and your networks to advertise this platform and to make a call for stories in your geographical areas. Any way you want, by placing a link on your website(s), by working with associations, etc.

2) at the end of this collecting period, we will hand over the material to the Conservatory of Liège so that they start to produce a theatre play
We would only ask you a little patience during the creation of the play(s) ;)
We already have an agreement of principle from the Conservatory. We will do our best to keep you informed about the plays and how the work is going.

3) touring of the play in different towns, maybe a presentation for ECCAR's general conference of 2017 or production of a DVD
It would be wonderful if you could host the play in your town, organise DVD projections or facilitate subtitling into your mother tongue.

You can take part in steps 1 and 2 without participating in step 3, and conversely.

The platform would be jointly and officially launched on the 10th of December 2014 because it is the 10thanniversary of ECCAR's adoption of the ten points action plan.
We would make sure that your town receives plenty of visibility, for instance by placing its logo in the «partners» section.

By taking part in this adventure, we could answer different needs that have been underlined during previous ECCAR meetings, for instance:
• reinforce the efforts to foster a diverse, integrated and non-discriminatory society;
• answer multiple points of the action plan;
• provide some common actions for member cities;
• produce concrete and visible results.
